The Under Armour Charged Phantom SL delivers in a big way when it comes to performance and traction. Playing with these shoes you would swear they are spiked.
GETS Golf put these comfortable shoes to the test.
It is easy to see why so many golfers are moving towards spikless and multipurpose shoes and the UA Phantom SL is one of the leaders driving this trend. The comfort of a running shoe mixed with the performance of a golf shoe sounds like a deadly combination.
The Technology
Water-resistant - Never-Wet Technology
Spikeless outsole - Light and flexible
Bootie design - Sock like fit and feel
Charged cushioning - Ultimate responsiveness and durability
Lightweight
Molded EVA sockliner
Machine washable
This modern and athletic take on a golf shoe won't suit everyone, we feel they are aimed at the younger generation. However, it’s a unique proposition as its multipurpose and offers serious golf performance. It may sway a few traditionalists along the way.
As easily as you can wear these on the course you can wear them to the gym, walk the dogs and a slip them on for a quick grocery run and no-one would be any wiser. These shoes are designed to be breathable, and the Never-Wet technology truly delivers in this regard as our feet stayed cool and dry all day. These shoes are machine washable which would be unthinkable for a golf shoe in the past.
The shoe is incredibly lightweight and comfortable from the moment you put them on.
It feels like putting on a pair of Under Armour running shoes. The charged midsole like in many of their runners, are designed to improve your ability, to transfer energy created from the ground into your golf swing. This shoe offers on the course and with the mixed weather we had this season they never let us down.
The sole offers serious grip and performance through a variety of different ground conditions.
Recently GETS Golf tested FJ Pro SL Sport (https://www.getsgolf.com/post/fj-prosl-sport) we believe offers less traction than the UA Charged Phantom SL, which stands this shoe in good stead. Considering its multipurpose appeal it would maybe give the UA a foot up when considering a new purchase.
Pros
Best in traction for 2023
