2025 U.S. Open - Oakmont Country Club

The US Open is returning to hallowed ground in 2025: Oakmont Country Club. This isn't just another major; it's a test against one of the toughest, most historic courses in the world. For the 10th time, Oakmont will challenge the best golfers, and if history is any indication, prepare for a battle.

Oakmont

Oakmont's story began in 1903, the vision of Henry Clay Fownes, a steel magnate with a clear mission: to create the most demanding golf course imaginable. Inspired by the links courses of Great Britain, Oakmont emerged as an "inland links," a course that punished even the slightest error. Fownes' philosophy, "a shot poorly played should be a shot irrevocably lost," is still felt today.

Designated a National Historic Landmark, Oakmont boasts a fearsome reputation earned over a century. With virtually no water hazards and, since 2007, almost no trees, the challenge comes from its relentless design.

2025 we can expect:

  • Lightning-fast

  • Deep, furrowed bunkers

  • Brutal rough: A true test of precision

  • Playing over 7,300 yards

  • Green speeds - Expected to be 14+ on the stimpmeter

  • Rough - Early reports suggest it will be especially penal

The USGA is promising a brutal test. Recent renovations by Tom Fazio and Gil Hanse have only enhanced Oakmont's challenge, with wider driving zones, strategically placed bunkers, and devilish hole locations.

Oakmont's legacy is intertwined with the US Open. It has hosted more of these championships than any other course, witnessing legendary moments and crowning iconic champions. From Tommy Armour in 1927 to Jack Nicklaus in 1962, Oakmont has a way of making history.

The 2025 US Open at Oakmont won't be for the faint of heart. Expect high scores, dramatic moments, and a true test of golfing mettle.
